SHEQ Management was engaged by the Client to address risks associated with interaction of pedestrians and mobile / fixed plant equipment within a busy manufacturing setting.
Additional challenges included a single entry point for deliveries to neighbouring businesses.
SHEQ Management developed traffic management control measures identified in consultation with employees.
One of Australia’s leading manufacturer of polypropylene equipment and piping for the mining, oil and gas and waste water treatment industries, their products are supplied to national and international projects.
They also hold triple ISO certification.
Challenge One: Shared driveway for multiple organisations resulting in deliveries dropped off at incorrect locations, often at the first drop off point.
Challenge Two: Uncontrolled traffic passing through yard, with both mobile equipment and pedestrian interaction within the yard area.
Challenge Three: Mobile equipment and pedestrian interaction within the workshop area, with no delineation between personnel and operating mobile equipment.
Challenge Four: No exclusion zones around fixed plant, for employees, materials, and equipment in operating area of these machines.
Solution One: Coloured lines for each identity marked on the road surface directing traffic to the three different receival points.
Solution Two: Installation of traffic control measures, including signage and speed humps within the yard area.
Solution Three: Painted pedestrian walkways and installation of hard barricades at pedestrians access points to segregate personnel from operating mobile equipment within the workshop floor.
Solution Four : Mark and define exclusion zones around fixed plant.
Outcome One: Deliveries arriving at the correct drop off/receival points.
Outcome Two: Improved and efficient traffic flow resulting in elimination of congestion and interaction risk.
